ALABAMA



The Alabama Association of Mental Retardation & Developmental Disabilities

AAMRDD is Alabama's statewide association of local public agencies responsible for Planning, Needs Assessment and Services for individuals with mental retardation. Many of our agencies also serve children with developmental disabilities. Our agencies are where people go or whom they call on when they need services.



Alabama Commission on Aging (state)

Alabama Council for Developmental Disabilities

The Alabama Council for Developmental Disabilities has 36 members who oversee activities in advocacy, capacity building, and systems change. Alabama Statewide Technology Access and Response Project (STAR)

The mission of the STAR Program is to enhance independence, productivity and quality of life for all Alabamians with disabilities through access to assistive technology devices and services.



Dept. of Economic and Community Affairs (state)

ADECA, which operates as an extension of the Governor’s office, administers these grants from funds provided by the federal government, the state legislature and other sources. Grants are used to create jobs, build needed water and sewer systems, provide for law enforcement and traffic safety, promote energy efficiency and conservation and help victims heal from the trauma of family violence, among other projects.

The agency was created to administer financial assistance programs enacted by the federal Social Security Act to cope with the economic hardships of the period. Dept. of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (state)

The Alabama DOMHMR is the state agency responsible for serving Alabama citizens with mental illness, mental retardation and substance abuse problems. Last fiscal year, we served around 200,000 people through a broad network of state mental illness and mental retardation facilities and community-based services, including residential, outpatient and prevention programs for persons with substance abuse problems.

Alaska Commission on Aging (state)

The mission of the Alaska Commission on Aging (ACoA) is to promote the dignity and independence of senior Alaskans, and to assist them in leading useful and meaningful lives.



Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Assistive Technology Program

The purpose of the AT Project is to ensure all Alaskans have the assistive technology and related services needed to live, work and participate in their community.



Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (state)

RELAYalaska

Contact CGI service rep. If a TTY user wants to talk with a person who does not have a TTY, how does the TTY user make contact? That is what RELAYalaska does. The TTY user dials RELAYalaska at 1-800-770-TYPE (8937) and tells the Communication Assistant (CA) to dial the telephone number of the "voice person." The CA stays on the line throughout the entire conversation. The CA reads the sender’s typed message to receiving party, and types the spoken response so the TTY user can read it.

ARIZONA



Aging and Adult Administration (state)

The Aging and Adult Administration provides information and services to seniors within Arizona through Adult Protective Services, Benefits Counseling, Long Term Care Ombudsman, Program Legal Services Assistance, and the Older Workers Program/Title V. Each of these services assists in accomplishing the administration's number one goal to provide opportunities for keeping vulnerable adults and older persons in their homes and communities.



Arc of Arizona, inc.

The 18 affiliate Arc chapters are statewide and offer a full continuum of services that includes residential programs, day programs, supported work programs and job training, family supports, Arc sponsored conferences and workshops, resource / information and advocacy, for children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.



Arizona Statewide Independent Living Council

Arkansas Increasing Capabilities Access Network (ICAN)

We're the Tech Act project for Arkansas, created through the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, and committed to the belief that all persons with a disability can be independent and productive if they have the right technology.



Arkansas Independent Living Council

CIL's are local, community operated centers that are operated primarily by and governed primarily by people with disabilities. They are not residential facilities. They are better described as resource centers. They are service oriented in that they offer services such as information and referral, independent living skills training, advocacy, and peer support and counseling.

California's AT Network is dedicated to expanding the accessibility of tools, resources and technology that will help increase independence, improve personal productivity and enhance the quality of life for all Californians.



Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors

The mission of BAADS is to make all aspects of sailing in the San Francisco Bay Area accessible. This includes full participation in teaching, day excursions, racing, and advanced sailing activities, as well as development of adaptive facilities, sailboats and other equipment and information to promote these ends.



Berkeley (Calif.)Commission on Disability

Charged with actively promoting the total integration and participation of persons with disabilities into all areas of economic, political, and community life. Membership shall be made up primarily of persons who have disabilities.

CASH-PCR, comprised of families and friends of the residents of the California State Developmental Centers, is dedicated to insuring that all persons with developmental disabilities receive the quality services and supports necessary for them to realize their full potential, as mandated by the Lanterman Act.

Columbia Basin Edu-Care Association is a non profit organization, sponsoring the United States Department of Agriculture's Child Care Food Program. This interdepartmental, interagency council will be made up of representatives from the State Departments of Health Services, Mental Health, Developmental Services, Social Services, Alcohol and Drug Programs, Aging, Rehabilitation, Community Services and Development, the Office of Statewide Planning and Development and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. The Council will coordinate long-term care policy development and program operations and develop a strategic plan for long-term care policy.

Community Options, Inc.

Adding flavor to the pot of living options for people with developmental disabilities comes Community Options, Incorporated (COI), a Family Home Agency (FHA). CDHS is part of the California Health and Human Services Agency. The CDHS is one of the largest departments in State government, with over 5,000 employees working in its Sacramento headquarters and over 60 field offices throughout the State. Business Services and Employment (state)

Business in Georgia is both distinct and diverse. There are several aspects of business services and employment in the state that range from the different opportunities within the state to the laws and requirements mandated by the state.



Dept. of Community Affairs (state)

Today, the newly expanded DCA operates a host of state and federal grant programs; serves as the state's lead agency in housing finance and development; promulgates building codes to be adopted by local governments; provides comprehensive planning, technical and research assistance to local governments; and serves as the lead agency for the state's solid waste reduction efforts.

Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases (DHR)

The MHDDAD regional offices are the contact points for people needing treatment for mental illness or substance abuse problems, support services for people with mental retardation, or substance abuse prevention services. Services are provided across the state through seven state hospitals, one mental retardation institution, and through contracts with 26 community service boards, boards of health and various private providers. In addition , contracted community programs screen people for admission to state hospitals and give follow-up care when they are discharged.



Division of Public Health (DHR)

The GDPH is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the State of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population. At the state level, GDPH is divided into numerous branches, sections, programs and offices, and at the local level, GDPH functions via 19 health districts and 159 county health departments.

Georgia offers various opportunities for education. Whether you are pursuing a career in education or planning to enroll, Georgia offers many programs, courses, benefits and locations to do so.

Learning Disabilities Research and Training Center, University of Georgia

This informational Guide was developed for and about adolescents in transition and adults with learning disabilities and attention disorders. This Guide may be used by consumers, their families, the professionals who work with them, and those who write policy that include and affect all people with learning disabilities.
