The PACE model is centered around the belief that it is better for the well-being of seniors with chronic care needs and their families to be served in the community whenever possible. The U.S. Disabled Athletes Fund, Inc. is a direct outgrowth and legacy of the 1996 Paralympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia. These Games, the first held on American soil, were the realization of the dreams of thousands of Americans involved in the delivery and growth of sports for persons with physical disabilities in this country.
The U.S. EWHA is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 corporation, and member of Disabled Sports USA, dedicated to allowing many participants the opportunity to play electric (power) wheelchair hockey. Our sport is called PowerHockey™. Our Mission: To provide a quality hockey program for persons who require the use of an electric (power) wheelchair in daily life.
The United States Handcycling Federation was formed in July, 1998 after participants and other supporters at the 1998 National Handcycling Championships (the first ever) came together with the goal of developing a national governing body for the sport. Represented by Wheelchair Sports USA, handcycling was added as a full medal sport at the IPC Worlds, and the newly-formed U.S. National Team managed to pick up 4 medals at the championships. Now in it's third year, the USHF has expanded the Board of Directors, and we are in the process of creating an Advisory Board, and a few staff positions...
USICD brings together many of the disability-oriented agencies, as well as associations, facilities and individual consumers in the country. Specifically, members include: government agencies, consumer associations, non-profit organizations, service providers, employers with exemplary employment policies, and individuals interested in furthering the full integration into society of people with disabilities.
VisionConnection was founded in October 2003 by Lighthouse International, established in 1905 to help people overcome the challenges of vision impairment through worldwide leadership in vision rehabilitation services, education, research, prevention and advocacy.
V.O.I.C.E.S. was created to be a resource for families with children who have Apraxia and other communication disorders. Through V.O.I.C.E.S., we will help raise awareness of Apraxia and other communication disorders and become a part of the solution, helping evey child to be heard and understood and achieve empowerment through communication!
WATA is a consumer advocacy network that includes the University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies (UWCTDS), and the AT Resource Center at Easter Seal Society in Spokane (EATRC). WATA also receives guidance from a Consumer Majority Advisory Board.
The Wheelchair Foundation is a nonprofit organization leading an international effort to deliver a wheelchair to every man, woman and child in the world who needs one. For those individuals, the Wheelchair Foundation offers freedom, self-reliance, mobility and hope.
FOUNDED IN 1956 Wheelchair Sports, USA, now in its 42nd year. In the early days, many wheelchair basketball players saw participation in individual wheelchair sports as supplementary training for their primary interest in basketball. However, the Wheelchair Sports, USA, program appealed to even greater numbers of athletes with disabilities because it was able to incorporate women and quadriplegics (those with paralysis in upper as well as lower extremities); two populations which basketball could not reasonably accommodate at that time.
WE are dedicated to active individuals, 18-years and older using aids as a means of mobility, people with speech, hearing, or sight impairments, and people who struggle to overcome difficulties in society. The organization promotes activity and unity of all Americans and advocates for greater access in America for people with disabilities.
